![]() ![]() You can also stick to your main router as long as it is fast enough for your internet and MUST have gigabit ports. more and more will improve the speed and efficiency. ![]() The result will be 200% improved wifi at least. You can plug the express into the AP by ethernet and use them with wifi turned off. having tried Unifi, EAP, and lots of cheap routers which I get second hand off eBay and work perfectly well for my usage. At the moment that is what I would jump to. Lots of youtube videos with people using them so have a look. it has 4 gigabit ports and should be reasonable. which you can setup fairly easily but should also work in AP mode. The AX1800 is very cheap and has mesh extensions. no Mac software sadly.Īnother possible unit which is gaining popularity is Xiaomi A lot series. either a small unit or software on PC or Linux. You are also after the best possible wifi signal and may as well buy AX products now. preferably ones like Asus which do actually have a built in mesh as well but they are expensive. My standby is routers that come with AP mode. whereas AP are designed more for ceiling or wall mounting and usually have only one or at most two ethernet ports. Most mesh units are designed to sit on a table or the like. That is a proper AP with 4 or 5 gigabit ports. It is really hard to find products with the form factor I would like. so they should be OK but due to the much slower ethernet will really slow down your network. and really work much better wired than wireless. good enough for airplay but nothing else. Unfortunately express have 100mbps ports. It would be great if I could set it up as a Wi-Fi extender (bridge) for my BT Smarthub. Thank you. In this mode it will stream from Airplay on my iPhone to the speaker - and it sounds great!īut it’s a pain having to lose the internet to do it and it doesn’t seem very stable. Nonetheless, I can make it work using Airplay by ignoring all three status messages and coming off my Wi-Fi network and joining the Airport Express network. I have set it up in what seems to be a standalone Wi-Fi network with no internet connection (the amber light keeps flashing) and there are three status messages shown in Airport Utility (Ethernet unplugged, no internet connection and no DNS server). I want to use it wirelessly if possible so I don’t have to lay an Ethernet extension cable. ![]() Still it did download the latest firmware. But I couldn’t get it to join the network (amber light flashing). I’m having trouble setting up the AirPort Express to link with my BT Smart Hub? I’ve updated the firmware by temporarily plugging it in via an Ethernet cable to my BT Smart Hub. I can, but only in what seems to be a standalone network. I have connected an old B&O speaker to my Apple AirPort Express using the audio socket in the hope that I can use Airplay to stream to the speaker. Can I connect my AirPort Express to my BT Smart Hub wirelessly? Hello. ![]()
